Wake up. You’ve been sleeping.

Once again African-Americans are faced with the troubling truth that we don’t matter in Amerikkka. After many of our peers and family members showed concern about the Trayvon Martin case, all of a sudden they forgot that we are still in the same place we started.

What good is a hundred tweets and blacked out profile pictures if we aren’t willing to take the extra mile and actually make a change. Honestly, those petty things do nothing but keep us in a box and it ignores the truth and real issues facing the “Black community”.

Renisha McBride, 19, was killed Saturday in Dearborn Heights, Mich., located just west of Detroit. What makes this incident even more horrid is that she may have been the victim of self- defense gone wrong according to her family.

A 19-year-old Black woman was shot asking for help and it barely makes national news. But had it been the other way around and a white woman was in the same predicament it would have made every newspaper and broadcasting station in a matter of minutes.

The only time Black people get national attention is when we are doing something negative. The media has a lot to do with the brainwashing and everything else to keep the people deceived.

On another note, it’s extremely hard to get attention for missing Black children and that only shows that “they” don’t care about us. When poor kids of color are killed, they are given they least amount of attention.

If  Blacks don’t make it relevant and important amongst ourselves then it will never matter in their eyes.

Sadly, the story of Renisha McBride happens to Blacks everyday but they get no attention unless we shed light on the situation.

Many were awakened by the beating to death of  16-year-old Derrion Albert from Chicago, some were awakened when Trayvon Martin was murdered on his way home.

Although, there are many who are still asleep, hopefully this article has awaken your slumber, if not, keep dreaming and hoping for better days.

I’ve only lied to you a few times, but it was all to make you fall in love with me. Forgetting what I said in the beginning, your memory was as good as a first kiss. And you caught me, wiping the mas
